Durfee Tutoring
Project...
What Is the Durfee Tutoring Project?
This project offers tutoring and mentoring to downtown youth. Trained
volunteers provide reading or homework tutoring to youth weekday afternoons or
during the school day. Volunteers work with youth at Beverly J. Martin
School, Belle Sherman School, Ithaca High School, and Greater Ithaca Activities
Center (GIAC).
The project exists thanks to the vision and financial gift of Arthur and
Martha Durfee, former members of First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca.
Volunteers Make a Difference
Volunteers come from all age groups and have varied work and life
experiences. Volunteers are people who like making a difference in young
people's lives.
Tutoring is a rewarding experience. The Durfee Tutoring Project gives
tutors and kids a chance to meet one on one, which makes all the difference.
Not only are our volunteers tutors, they are also mentors.
