Our Community

Becoming a Member

 We all have a part in the mission of the church. That's why we organize ourselves into committees and other groups that attend to the various needs and help people find ways of giving their gifts of time, energy, caring, and skills.

Our Session is our governing and spiritual leadership board.  It oversees the work of several committees: Worship and Music, Christian Education, Membership Connections, Missioners, Buildings and Properties, Finance, and Personnel.

Deacons are elected to serve in certain areas in the work of the church, to augment the work of the pastors and Session, being set apart from the membership in having specific duties. These duties include the following:

  • Regular visitation to nursing home residents and homebound members.
  • Supporting members who have just returned from the hospital or are in mourning.
  • Preparing and setting up the elements for Communion.
  • Home Communion.
  • Organizing donations to the Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard.
  • Delivery of flowers (including small poinsettias at Christmastime) to shut-ins.
  • Administering an academic scholarship program.
  • Organizing short-term outreach projects.
  • Ministries for newborn babies.
  • Leading certain worship services.
