|Ethiopian Mission Partnership|
The Susquehanna Valley Presbytery (SVP), of which our congregation is a part, established a mission partnership with the Western Wollega Bethel Synod (WWBS) in 1996. Both the presbytery here in New York and the synod there, with its headquarters in Dembi Dollo, desired a partnership of mutuality, with each one giving and receiving through our relationship with each other. Even though the funds used in the partnership are generated by SVP, we decide together how they are to be used each year. The First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca has taken a very active role as committee members, visitors to Ethiopia, and with funds for the partnership.
The main activity sponsored by the partnership is that of visits from here to there and from there to here. These visits, so far being of from one to four persons at a time, are a wonderful means through which we can get to know one another and be of mutual support in our respective ministries.
Another activity under the Ethiopian Mission is that of the Ethiopian Rural Education Project (EREP). Four schools opened on October 16, 2006, with approximately 87 students in grades 1 and 2. Staff includes four teachers and one coordinator.
We anticipate many inspiring interactions between the mission partners in the years to come.
