Becoming a Member

Becoming a Member...

Membership begins simply at First Presbyterian, by asking "how and when?"

The pastor meets with all those interested, establishes a class on three consecutive Sundays, and attempts to cover or refer to the following:

  1. Meet/greet, sharing faith journeys, etc., and a book to be used, titled The Presbyterian Handbook;
  2. Reformed church theology and history;
  3. PC(USA) polity/administration, etc., and wrap-up about membership.

We will usually invite an Elder or two to sit in on the classes.  The sessions will meet in the pastor's office following worship, during the normal adult education time, which is from 11:10 a.m. - noon.

At the conclusion of the three classes, we will then meet with the Session, which formally welcomes new members to the church, and then establish a Sunday morning to be received by the congregation during the worship service.

You can indicate your interest in becoming a member on the information pad in the church pew, or contact the pastor - call the church (607-272-2800) for more assistance.

Classes are usually created when there are four or more participants.
