Dr. James R. Henery, Pastor

Dr. James R. Henery first came to Ithaca as designated pastor in 2004, and then was installed as pastor in September, 2006.  His background includes teaching both high school and college in media/journalism and writing for newspapers.  He has served the church in a variety of contexts, including interims, parish associate, and US Navy Chaplain.  Degrees include a BA from the College of Wooster, OH; an M.Div. from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH; and a Doctor of Ministry from Ashland Theological Seminary and Ashland University, Ashland, OH, with an emphasis in Charles Dickens.  Additional studies include summers at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, and colleges in Oxford and Cambridge, England.

Rev. Kristin Sundt, Pastoral Associate and Director of Christian Education

I grew up in Norway. Theological studies brought me across the ocean to the U.S. After I received my degree I went back to Norway to serve the church there. I had met David while I was in the U.S. and we decided to get married. A Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) pastor marrying a Norwegian United Methodist pastor at a Church of Norway chapel made the local newspapers. For 3 years we served churches in our own language and culture in Stavanger, a city located on the west coast of Norway with a large foreign population due to oil exploration in the North Sea. We returned to the U.S. in 1986. I became the Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in March 2001 and I am excited about being in a congregation who take Christian Education seriously. The Christian Faith is full of great stories, and I am always looking for ways to help tell the stories of Faith in new and exciting ways through our education program.
